Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 1882-1945.  32nd President of the United States, 1933-1945.  Excellent association formal portrait photograph signed For Felix Belair from his friend  /  Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The President inscribed this beautiful portrait for Felix Belair, Jr.  (1908-1978), who for many years was the White House and Washington correspondent for The New York Times.  At the time of his death, Belair had served in the Times' Washington bureau longer than any reporter in its history.  The photograph comes directly from the Belair family, and to our knowledge it has never been on the market before.

The photograph shows FDR, pen in hand, at his desk in what was probably his oval study, now known as the Yellow Oval Room, in the residence quarters upstairs in the White House.  The portrait is by Harris & Ewing of Washington, D.C., for years the official presidential photographers, whose stamp appears in the lower left corner.

The photo measures approximately 9½" x 13¼".  It has been framed in a simple black frame.  We have not examined it out of the frame, but it appears to be in extra fine condition, with a bold inscription and signature by Roosevelt in the margin below his image.  There is typical light silvering to the image that is not as apparent in person as the light reflection from the scanner makes it appear below.  The color gradation is an original part of the photo, not the result of the framing.
